SAFE SEX, TREATMENT In THAILAND

Location does not matter, gender does not matter, sexual orientation does not matter, age does not matter as anyone and every one can be infected with HIV.

There is NO CURE for HIV/AIDS! Some day let’s hope a cure will be discovered but until then, there are only two ways not to get HIV; to have no sex or to practice safe sex at all times.

Safe sex has been a topic more then once on our health page which we do have archived. All our health topics are archived so everyone in or outside Thailand can use them as a resource. All our health topics are mainly aimed at gay Thai men in Thailand as well as to our farang friends with Thai boyfriends or gay friends. Links for additional information for each health topic is carefully chosen for reliable information and easily understandable.

We have written about safe sex guidelines, safe sex practices, free clinics in Bangkok such as the Thailand Red Cross and Silom Community Clinic, STD/STI, and CD4 and Viral Load. We have also written about if you are HIV+ you can be reinfected and why safe sex is still needed. In one of our early articles within “Be Safe, Stay Alive” topics of low cost and free treatment in Thailand was covered.

Speaking of the cost of treatment in Thailand for HIV/AIDS, low cost treatment and free treatment IS available through Thai government hospitals and the Anonymous Clinic at the Thai Red Cross to name two places. All Thais who work who pay into the Social Welfare system are covered for low cost or free medical care including for HIV tests and HIV treatment. The 30 baht health care program provides for the same medical care for non-working Thais. What is important here when going to a Thai government hospital is to make sure after you know you are HIV+ that the doctor that treats you is an Infectious Disease doctor as this doctor is a specialist for HIV+ people.

Cost of “real” treatment from a Thai government hospital. The basic combinations of HIV medications are prescribed after the resistance test is done. The Infectious Disease doctor will prescribe Tenofovir (also known as Viread), Epivir (also known as Lamivudine and 3TC), and Efavirenz (also know as Sustiva). The cost of this combination is 5,000 Baht for a 30 day supply but is free with the Social Welfare card or 30 Baht program.

Let’s not lose any more friends! Always practice safe sex! If you are HIV+ GET TREATMENT! Look for help, get counselling. Educate yourself, your life depends on it.
